Staunton/Augusta Farmers’ Market
Our products are for sale on Saturdays throughout the season at the
Staunton/Augusta Farmers’ Market. This will be our eleventh year as
vendors.
Our products include fresh seasonal vegetables, free-range eggs and
chicken. We also sell handcrafted wool products, herbs, and pure Jersey
milk soap. We use all these products as a family, and find it personally
rewarding to share them with the community.
If you’re ever in Staunton, VA, please stop by and say “Hello”. Tom is the
Market Master, and should be easy to find. We would love to have you at
the Market.
The Market season starts the first Saturday in April, at which time we will
have eggs, herbs, pure Jersey milk soap, and wool products. If the weather
is cooperative, fresh greens and lettuce will also be available.
As the season progresses, more vegetables and flowers become available.
Scallions, lettuce and greens are quickly joined by radishes, Chinese
cabbage and broccoli.
At the height of summer, yellow squash, green beans and cucumbers make
an appearance. The ever popular heirloom tomatoes and sweet corn make
a somewhat belated appearance in our zone 6 area of the world. But, they
are greatly enjoyed by all.
As the fall of the year comes, the growing season begins to wind down with
winter squash, cabbages and sweet potatoes. We generally have a good
selection and variety up to closing day, the weekend before Thanksgiving.
The end of the Market signals a change in the rhythm of our lives as we
slow down, review the past year and plan the next. Each year, we try to add
a few more items, and increase our supply. This seasonal way of life is very
comforting, and quite challenging.
